The iconic Bond car chase in "Goldfinger," filmed in Switzerland's Furka Pass in 1964, forever linked Aston Martins with the Swiss mountains, a connection prominently captured in David Yarrow's work. This association, along with the recurring theme of snow in James Bond films, has become a classic cinematic motif, often reflected in David Yarrow's photography.
For this particular shoot, Yarrow managed to acquire a DB4 from a collector in Zurich. With meticulous care, the car was positioned by the roadside at dawn, setting the stage for a Bond-esque scene. While Sean Connery, the legendary Scottish actor known for his portrayal of James Bond, is no longer with us, Yarrow felt confident that the scene he set would sufficiently evoke the Bond narrative, leaving the rest to the viewers’ imagination.
The starring role in this photograph was played by Erica Lawrence from Brooklyn, New York. A former basketball player, her athletic stature added to the allure of the scene. Yarrow, who is a friend of Lawrence, knew she would perfectly embody the glamour and sex appeal he aimed to capture, almost to the point of parody. After all, being mere minutes from St Moritz and featuring a quintessential Bond car, Yarrow believed there could be no other narrative for this shoot. His photograph is not just a tribute to Bond but also a celebration of the glamour and drama that the series is renowned for, all set against the majestic backdrop of the Swiss mountains.
