ARMERIA REALE
Turin, Italy– 2023
Founded by Carlo Alberto in 1837, this fine example of Italian architecture sits resplendent in the Queen’s Gallery. The ornate frescoes which decorate the ceilings of the Royal Armoury were painted between 1738 and 1742 by the court artist Claudio Francesco Beaumont.
The museum houses works from the arsenals of Torino and Genoa, as well as antiquities and acquisitions from prestigious collections. In 1842, the museum was expanded to include those brought from overseas. With the founding of the Italian Republic in 1946, the Armeria Reale became a public institution.
The collection contains a vast array of objects dating from prehistory to the beginning of the 1900s, including an immense collection of coins, medals and sigils inside its gilded walls. The history embedded in this museum is highlighted through Christian Voigt’s photography, gathering the armoured statues and antique collection cases under the vibrant blue frescoed ceiling.
