Swiss Symbols, Rethought: Lusztyk’s Contribution to Above & Beyond

For the exhibition, Lusztyk turns his attention to the artefacts of Swiss identity.

Using the APLA SWISS Focus Stacking Camera, he creates ultra-high-resolution still lifes of Swiss passports, postage stamps, banknotes, the famous Golden Vreneli, lobster claws, and tins of caviar.

Each object is isolated on a neutral background, lit with quiet precision and presented not as a souvenir but as a cultural sign.

These photographs ask provocative questions:

Is identity carried in a passport?

Is luxury embedded in a product?

In St. Moritz, where style and tradition meet, these works resonate as reflections on belonging, value and discretion.

Signature Projects

Beyond the Swiss series, Lusztyk’s career spans a wide range of acclaimed projects:

  • Interchanges – aerial views of highway junctions that resemble sculptural abstractions.
  • Point Blank – macro portraits of handguns, rendered with forensic detail and quiet intensity.
  • Collectables, Fungi and Refined Sugar – magnified still lifes of coins, mushrooms and confections that transform the mundane into works of wonder.

Each body of work reveals the same dedication to clarity and the conviction that any subject, examined closely enough, possesses visual power.

A Dialogue of Three Visions

Within Switzerland Above & Beyond Lusztyk’s objects converse with Patrick Lambertz’s snowbound chalets and Tom Hegen’s aerial mappings of roads and tunnels.
Together they offer a portrait of Switzerland beyond postcards: a country defined by the homes we build, the routes we carve and the symbols we choose to preserve.
