Jacob Gils (b. 1963, Denmark) is an internationally renowned Danish contemporary photographer. His unique creative vision deftly combines traditional techniques with experimental processes to form his evocative artwork. His Movement series delves into the temporal and compositional aspects of our visual experience. Gils uses a multiple exposure technique to capture the brilliance of the natural and man-made world, while emphasizing the fleeting nature of time. His works, straddling the line between figuration and abstraction, pulsate with energy and life. Minute details, moments upon moments, coalesce to form each artwork. Jacob’s unique creative vision has earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious Prix de la Photographie Paris (2012 & 2015). In 2024, he was awarded the largest-ever Art Fair Prize ($100’000) by the Erarta Foundation at the ZonaMaco Art Fair in Mexico. His photography has been exhibited all over the world and is proudly displayed in national museums in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Colombia, as well as in the Danish Royal Collection at Ameliaborg Palace in Copenhagen.
