Beny Steiner

Beny Steiner, (b.1950, Klosters) has built an extraordinary career that spans continents and artistic fields. Her journey began at just 17 when she moved to Kabul, Afghanistan. On returning to Europe, she became a prominent model, gracing the catwalks of fashion capitals like Milan, Paris, and London. During this time, Steiner developed her unique and intriguing sense of fashion, which naturally evolved into a successful career as a stylist. In the 1980s, she moved to New York, where she honed her creative vision and transitioned from a stylist to a photographer. Her work with renowned photographers like Raymond Meier inspired her to capture images, starting with editorial assignments and gradually shifting her focus to more personal subjects. Beny returned to the Engadine Valley in 2008, a place of serene beauty. Her life has taken a significant turn in recent years, as she has been gradually losing her sight due to a macular condition. This shift has not deterred her creative drive but instead led her to explore new ways of experiencing the world, a testament to her resilience and adaptability. Her images, printed on cotton rag photo paper, reveal a poetic and intimate perspective, capturing nature's quiet moments—birds in flight, drifting clouds— with a deep connection to her life's rich experiences and the serene beauty of her Alpine surroundings.
