Peter Mathis (*1961) has specialised in large-format landscape photography since 2009. He is the only Austrian photographer so far to have received the prestigious "Hasselblad Master" award (2007). In 2008 he received the "Master of European Photography" award. Peter Mathis landscape photography catapults us into another world. The experienced mountaineer often waits for days for just the right moment, when the light, weather, and framing reflect precisely what he already has in his mind as a motif. The landscape appears in front of us, it seems familiar - but his pictures always have something unknown that we have not noticed before. About his approach, he says: "For almost forty years I have been going to the mountains, but now, as a photographer, I see things differently. I consciously try to take a step back. Only with distance can you really see the true dimension of the mountains."
